Lab visits promote exchange within the RIG Research Cluster “Manipulate Anything, Anywhere, Anytime” (MA3).

To deepen the mutual understanding of the cluster's approaches, research projects and experiences, the cluster leaders, Dr. Markus Grebenstein from DLR and Prof. Oliver Brock from TU Berlin, have launched a new series of lab visits. The first visit took place in Berlin recently. The next one is planned for southern Germany.

Productive atmosphere at the meeting in Berlin

Although much can be communicated digitally, face-to-face meetings offer the opportunity to experience research firsthand, discuss background information and develop shared perspectives. The aim of the visits is to gain an in-depth understanding of the partners’ specialist areas and technical approaches, rather than just demonstrations.

First stop Berlin.

The series recently kicked off in Berlin. The host was the Technical University of Berlin (TUB), which presented key developments in the field of manipulation and opened up its conceptual foundations for discussion. In addition, partners and associated partners from the north presented their current projects and research priorities.

Another focus was on research infrastructure: What technical resources would be necessary to make future work in the cluster even more effective? Of particular interest was the development and procurement of data acquisition hardware to improve the quality, consistency and accessibility of research data for learning methods and processing systems.

Project ideas for potential funding phases were also discussed, and concrete next steps were agreed upon. These include a planned RBO-Hand workshop to introduce the robotic hands provided by TUB, which have already been distributed to partner laboratories.

The next lab visit is scheduled to take place in Munich or Oberpfaffenhofen.

The next lab visit meeting is already being planned and is scheduled to take place in Munich or Oberpfaffenhofen. The focus will be on the architecture of manipulation systems.
